We build sustained, welcoming, and non-traditional educational environments.
Camps
Camps follow a similar structure to chapters, only differing in length. Students experience personalized learning, collaborate on a project, make new friends, and have a whole lot of fun. Simultaneously, mentors experience one-on-one teaching, develop organizing skills (and also make new friends and have a whole lot of fun)!

Chapters
Each chapter begins with three localized, introductory lessons. After, with the support of their mentor, each student reflects on their identities and interests to co-create their own science-based projects (like a protest demonstration for climate action or a studying tool for kids with ADHD) for the remainder of the program. In the end, students from all STEM & Buds chapters in the region come together and celebrate!
Outreach
We’ve organized online STEM tutoring during the pandemic; we’ve hosted day-long workshops/fundraisers for the Digital Divide and California Wildfires. We’ve also partnered with RedChairPGH for a networking event, Team Nebula for a STEM x Design-Thinking conference, and refugee organizations for specialized programs. Mostly, we’ve supported other young people to launch local, mission-driven initiatives (here). Currently, we partnering with civic science organizations.
